Paris - immer eine Reise wert... (englisch)Paris - the city of love, the capital of haute cuisine, the city of fashion and art... There are many clichés for Paris, and not all of them have something to do with savoir vivre, finesse or elegance.

The Seine-metropolis is still proud of all the Gloire et Grandeur of the past centuries: the Louvre, the Eiffel tower, the Palais Royal, the Opéra Garnier, the palaces of the Marais, ... Thereto the attractions from today: numerous art galleries, boutiques of the great couturiers, the restaurants of the most excellent cooks, the "new triumphal arch" in La Défense. And of course a lot of remembrances of all the writers, painters, sculptors, film-makers, and those who got inspired by the city at the Seine.
This mixture of tradition and cliché, of past and present is responsible for the charm of the modern Paris.
Oli and I explored the romantic city of Paris on the last days of the old year 2001 and the first two days of the brand new year 2002. We took the night train on December 29, 2001 arriving in Paris on the 30th. We stayed in a damn cheap, nice and clean hostel on Montmartre (Woodstock Hostel) near Sacre Coeur.
While in Paris, we did a lot of sightseeing, strolling around and relaxing in lovely bistros.
As the big sights in Paris are scattered around the whole city I suggest making use of the fast and reliable metro with its vast network of different lines.
